Tana Mongeau has confirmed she will be appearing at VidCon just one year after she launched her own rival event TanaCon, which was cancelled on its first day.
The 20-year-old star slammed VidCon – which is a convention held annually in Southern Carolina for people who love online video – because she believed they mistreated her in previous editions of the festival.
Tana then launched her own version of the event which flopped because the venue wasn’t able to hold the 15,000 fans that came up to see her.
However, she is now keen to make amends with VidCon and has thanked them for welcoming her back on board and giving her ‘support.’
She said: ‘My number one priority has always been my fans and as a Featured Creator, I’m excited to have the opportunity to meet with them on-site, thank them for all their support, and discuss my many new projects, including my new reality show, and doing it in a safe and comfortable environment – both for them and myself.’
Last year, Tana claimed VidCon said they were going to make her a Featured Creator for their festival but then went back on their promise.
TanCon was an unorganised disaster and fell through because the venue issued 5,000 free tickets to the event, but then thousands more fans turned up expecting to get in and were the forced to wait outside in the intense summer heat.
The failed convention became the subject of a Shane Dawson documentary series called ‘The Truth About Tanacon’.
VidCon co-founder and former CEO Hank Green later apologised to Tana and recognised their mistake.
He said: ‘If we were going to have her doing content, she should have been a featured creator.
‘We were being conservative because of some things that Tana had done and said in the past, but we should either have had her there or not…. not that shitty in-between thing. This isn’t the first time we screwed up, and it won’t be the last. This is a hard business, and I’m not saying ‘Oh, Tanacon is all my fault!’ but I think it’s important to recognise when we make mistakes regardless of the mistakes other people made.’
