These NES games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online in July

Nintendo Switch Online features access to some of the best NES games ever released

The Nintendo Switch features one of the strongest lineups on the market, with titles like Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Smash Bros. But its secret weapon is its online service, which not only allows people to play multiplayer games with others across the globe, but provides access to a selection of classic NES titles.

Nintendo Switch Online is a subscription-based service with monthly and yearly options. You can either choose an individual plan or opt for a family plan, which includes support for up to eight members. If you’re unsure about committing to a monthly or annual plan, you can try a free 7-day trial.

Update July 11, 2019: Nintendo revealed Donkey Kong 3 and Wrecking Crew will be added to Nintendo Switch Online beginning July 17.

What’s next?

While Nintendo has committed to releasing new NES titles every month, many anticipate the company to expand to other consoles, such as SNES, N64, and Gamecube. In fact, data miners have uncovered evidence that SNES games are imminent. Imagine playing Super Mario World, Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, and Yoshi’s Island on the go.

Nintendo has an incredibly strong back catalog of titles, and with no plans to launch a Virtual Console, it seems like a matter of when, not if, the company goes beyond NES. If that happens, Nintendo Switch Online could become an instant purchase for the millions of Switch owners out there.
